A very personal cause that is close to my heart is suicide prevention. In honor of my beautiful daughter, I have signed up for and am participating in the TO WRITE LOVE ON HER ARMS DECEMBER DIP FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION. As many of you know, when my daughter was in the 2nd grade she was attacked by an unknown assailant who pulled a knife on her then came back six weeks later and attempted to kidnap her. She testified and sent this man to prison and upon his early release, he returned and held her captive in a local store until he was arrested for violation of parole, violation of protective order(s) and stalking. My child has endured a lifetime of anxiety, depression as well as suicide attempts. She has turned her terrifying experiences into her testimony and as her mother, it is my job to help her share her story and help any other person going through mental health crisis and considering suicide. She is almost 20 now and working in the health industry but it is a battle we still face every day and I am sure we always will.
